To His Excillency Thomas E Bramlette Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Your Petitioner Joseph D Faris would respectfully Represent unto your Excillency that at the March Term of the Whitley Circuit Court 1859 there was an Indictment returned into siad court by the grand Jury thereof against one Speed S. Faris for stabbing in sudden heat of passion The case was continued from time to time until the August Term of said Court 1861 for the testimony of Larkin Bowlin the person Stabbed whose testimony would have acquitted said Speed S Faris of the offense charged in the Indictment as your petitioner verily believes from the Statements of said Bowlin the other Witnesses not being able to see all that took place at the time as said Bowlin did & he refused to appear as a witness in order that said Faris might be ~~so fined~~ convicted that at the August Term of the Whitley Circuit Court 1861 said Speed S Faris went into trial wihtout said testimony rather than continue the case any longer and Jugment went against him for fifty dollars and costs that on the 26^th day of August 1861 your Petitioner Replevied the Same that afterward the said Speed S. Faris volunteered into the service of the united States as a Soldier and on the 7^th day of July 1863 died without having satisfied said Judgment & Replevin Bond & leaving no available means out of which to pay the same ~~The~~ your Petitioner would further represent that he has a large family to support and that he is in very
bad health so much so that he can scarcly attend to any business that there is an Execution in the hands of the Sheriff issued upon said Replevin Bond & Judgement and that if said Judgment or fine is not remitted he will be put to great inconveince & trouble to get the money to pay same off or his propety will have to sell He says that in truth and justice said fine ought to be remitted for if all the proof could have gone before the Jury they would not have fined him guilty & the Judgment of fifty dollars would not have been against him ~~He further says~~ The premises considered the prayer of your petitioner is that you you remit said fine for which he will ever fell greatfull
