To his Excellency,
Thomas. E. Bramlett Governor of Ky --

The undersigned petition Your Excellency to remit the fine ~~adjudged~~ against George Alfred of fifty dollars -- for selling whiskey to a slave -- They state that they were of the jury and heard the testimony -- And that they think it ought to be remitted -- That the said Alfred is a good loyal citizen -- is a man of sobriety and property -- and that the prosecution would never have been had except for an unfortunate misunderstanding between him and the prosecutor -- and as in duty bound your petitioners will ever pray &c

I respectfully state to your Excellency that the signers of the within petition were members of the Jury that tried the case of the commonwealth against George W. Alford for selling whisky to slave and that the accompanying paper is a true copy of the Warrant in said case, I further state that said case was tried before me as J. P. Garrard County Ky in the town of Bryantsville on the last Friday in April 1864 and that the statements of the within petitioners are wholly true. This 24 day of May 1864

I respectfully state to Gov. Thos E. Bramlette that I was the executive officer of Justices court that tried the case of the commonwealth agt G. W. Alford for selling whisky to a slave as refered to in the within petition, and join with the within petitioners in requesting your Excellency to remit the fine agt said Alford
