To His Excellency,
The Governor of Kentucky:

Your petitioner, Charles H, Meyer, humbly and respectfully states that he is a young man, now in the 26 year of his age; that on the 29^th Nov^r 1864, an indictment was returned in the Jefferson Circuit Court against him, for obtaining money, about $46.⁰⁰ from M^r J. B. Walker, under false pretences, committed by your petitioner obtaining the money from M^r Walker and giving him a due bill therefor, signing thereto the names "N & W. J Smith by Cha^s H. Meyer"; your petitioner representing himself as having authority so to sign.

Upon this indictment, the Jury on the 7^th day of Dec^r 1864, found your petitioner guilty, fixing his time of confinement in the State Penitentiary at One year; in conformity with which, sentence has been passed.

Your petitioner admits that he did get the money and that he therein violated the law; he sees the error of his way, and, while sincerely repenting, admits that the sentence against him is just.

He hopes, however, that your Excellency
may find it consistent with your duty to let "mercy season justice"; and he, therefore, humbly and penitently prays that Executive clemency may be exercised towards him, and he be pardoned, released from confinement and returned to his family and friends. Yet, whether pardoned or not, your petitioner has resolved that he will never hereafter, Knowingly violate the law; and to aid him in carrying out his resolve, he now sincerely prays the aid of divine Providence
