To His Excellency Beriah Magoffin
Govenor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Your petitioner John Walton and Isaac Walton would most respectfully represent unto Your Excellency that at the Term of the Knox Circuit Court they were indicted for the offence of playing cards with a slave and at the Sept Term 1860 of said Court they was tried and found guilty of said offence, and a fine of ten dolls was assessed against each of them they say they are not nor never was guilty of said offense they say it was proven on the trial by one witness that they did engage in the game, and by one that they did not and they could have probly another witness that they did not play but that he was out of this state at the trial and they could not get his testimony, but that he has since returned and says unconditionally that they did not play. They say that they are very poor, and that it is almost impossible to get money and they have repleived the fine and cost and will have the cost to pay which is $ — and also the fine unless your Excellency intervenes in ther behalf they say it is the first time they have
ever been indicted for a violation of the laws, and it is the last time, the premises considered they pray that your Excellency may extend to them the arm of your Executive clemency and they pray for a remission of the fine against them
