To His Excellency Beriah Magoffin Gov^r of the State of Kentucky --

The undersigned Jurors who tried the Indictment against G. C. Moody at the present term of the Campbell Circuit Court on a charge of sending a challenge to fight a duel, state that they ^were^ constrained by the evidence and the instructions to find a verdict of guilty and that they assessed the lowest penalty known to the law- a fine of $500.⁰⁰/₁₀₀ --

They would, under the circumstances, had the law permitted, have made the fine merely nominal. They believe the said G. C. Moody is a fit subject for Executive clemency and they therefore recommend your Excellency to remit the fine against him believing the amount he will be compelled to pay the Attorny for the Commonwealth & the costs will be ample punishment for the offence
