Organized at Camp Portsmouth, Ohio. Mustered in as the 117th Ohio Valley Infantry (U.S.A.) on September 16, 1862. Reorganized as the 1st Regiment Ohio Volunteers Heavy Artillery (U.S.A.) on August 12, 1863 in Covington and Newport, Kentucky. Mustered out on July 25, 1865. Commander(s): Colonel Chauncey D.
