Mr Lofton H Mitchell of Trigg County will present to your Excellency a petition, which I believe to be meritorious & which I trust will be granted Mr M was a soldier in my regt — 8^th Ky cavy — and as such bore the character of a brave & true man — I do not doubt that the indictment against him is the result of vindictive malice originating in the hearts of disloyal persons —

It is well understood in this part of the State that the Home Guard Company to which he was attached made a gallant fight against the Rebel Major Robt Martin and otherwise rendered efficient services to the Country —
