Head-Quarters Military Agent,
WESTERN DEPARTMENT.
Louisivlle, Ky.,
His Excellency,
Thos E. Bramlette,
Governor,
I have just received your letter of the
Also, from Hon, W. L. Samuels Auditor a Treasury Order for four hundred dollars, for which I send him my receipt by mail to day.
Your instruction to discontinue the Special Agency for Ky,, is complied with.
I have many important cases on hand which I think I can manage more easily than Col,, Gault. I will attend to those: the rest of my business I shall turn over to him.
Just at this moment, I know there is more necessaty for good efficent men to attend to the wants of Kentucky men at this Post, than perhaps ^for^ all other States combined.
It will give me great pleasure to assist Col,, Gault in rendering assistance to Kentcuky men. I know there is more work than can
be done to, do, The labor does not all come to the Office of the Agent, but it is readily found if looked for.
For the munificent reward your Excellency has made me for my service, I thank you. Should you again require my assistance in this work, I shall be happy to give you the same, I have now rendered, more, I cannot promise you.
Please convey to Genl Lindsey my thanks for the prompt aid he has rendered me, in the discharge of my duties.
And will your Excellency please Accept the the assurance of My highest Regard,
I Am Very Respectfully, Governor,
Your Obedient Servant,
W. DeB. Morrill.
Col. and Mil,, Agt,, for Illinois.
