To his Excellency the Governor of Kentucky.
Your petitioner Greenberry Tingle Jr states that he was indicted in the Henry Circuit Court for stabbing and wounding Turner, a slave of James Boyer, in sudden heat and passion, without malice and not in self defense. And at the September Term
The facts in his case were these — This slave stole petitioner's horse and an Endeavorrd to make way with it- Petitioner after missing his horse found it & became thoroughly satisfied that the negro had stolen it & his bridle. Petitioner & his father tried to get the owner of the negro to correct him for his conduct but he failed to do So, and petitioner seeing the negro one day accosted him & demanded the bridle which
he had stolen- Some words occurred between them the negro used imprudent langugae between towards petitioner ^was generally known to be a very bad negro^ and threatened peition with his master when petitioner, in the excitement of the moment, cut him with his knife- the wound was not serious has not damaged the negro, and deft regrets that he ever used the negro knife on the negro —
Petitioner is a poor young man of 19 years of age, and can sustain & prove a good character as a peaceable quiet boy who never had a difficulty before l in his life, & never interferes with other people's business
Petitioner promising ^not^ to get into a like difficulty again respectfully asks your Excellency to remit so much of the fine against him as the law will permit to be done.

The undesigned knows G. Tingle Jr & the slave Turner wounded by him- Tingle is a quiet, peaceable, inoffensive young man, of excellent habits and of industrious and law abiding generally. And the [ne] negro
is a bad dangerous slave who in one or two instances recently has acted in an outrageous manner. We ask that Tingle's fine be remitted.
The undersigned testify to the general good character & peaceable desposition of G. Tingle Jr- We are citizens of Henry County, and ask respectfully that his fine be remitted.
We unite in the prayer of the petitioner
The recommendation of Saml Jones, whom I well know, induces me to sign petition
