To his Excellency
Govr Bramlette
The undersigned respectfully solicit your Excellency to interpose and remit a fine imposed by the Fayette Circuit ^Court^ at ^its^ present sitting, against James Kenny for $200. for permitting cards to be played in his house for mony. We are informed that it was proved on the trial that Mr Kenny Kept a coffee house and sometimes men would play a game of cards for a small amount but that this was in ^an^ adjoining room; and while he did not prohibit them from playing his positively prohibited any betting, but Sometimes however the witnesses said they would bet small sums, but none of them said it was with ^out^ his Knowledge Mr Kenny has a wife, who is helpless & partially deranged and four small children, He is very poor, and is loss of $200, or imprisonment would bring them to real want, We hope your Excellency will give him the relief he asks for.
