Hopkinsville Sept 26th 1864
To his Excelency. Gov Bramlett. Govenor of of the Commonwealth of Kentucky,,

The Undersigned citizens of Christian County. who are and have ever been Loyal Citizens. beg leave to represent to your Honor. that at the present September term of our circuit court. a citizen of our County, William Ellis appeared before said court in answer to an Indictment for Keeping a gaming house or permitting houses to be played in his house, Mr Ellis plead Guilty to the charge and the Jury returned a verdict for Two hundred Dollars. We are Personally acquainted with William Ellis and knowing him and all the facts in connection with the charge, we feel satisfied that Mr Ellis did not intentionally violate the statute. but through kindness and carelessness permitted the act to be done. We cheerfully recommend Mr Ellis to your Excelency as a fine Union man a Good citizen and deserving of your clemency. We respectfully ask your Honor to interpose and remit so much of the fine as is in the Power of the Executive
