H. S. Glinn commonly called Sandy Glinn states that his sole reason for not attending the Scott Circuit Court at its May term 1864 in answer to the indictment against him for permitting his slave Sam to go at large was that during the said entire term of said court his wife Lucy Glinn was lying dangerously ill & was expected to die hourly that he was then & still is a poor man with no one in his family to assist in waiting on her & he was for this reason compelled to remain at home & take care of her as but he could — He says that W. H. Salyers was his surity on his bail bond for his appearance in answer to said charge & he asks that he be released from the payment of the fine adjudged against him (Salyers) on account of this affiants non appearance at said term of said court.

Joseph Barkley states that he is a practicing Physician ^in Scott County^ and that on the fifteenth day of May 1864 I was called

to see Mrs Lucy Glinn Consort of Mr H S, Glinn and found her dangerously Ill. I would further state by refering to my books find she continued Ill for some weeks, given under my hand this 265^th day of January 1865.

This is to certify that I am a practitioner of medicine in Scott Co Ky and that as far as my memory serves me I was called in connexion with Dr. Barkley (just the day previous to the sitting of the Scott Circuit Court (May term, ^1864^) To see the wife of Mr. H. S. Glenn whom I found very ill allmost at the point of death and remained quite dangerous for some days —
