State of Kentucky.
[Persossaley] appeared before me John McGinnis. Joseph Elk. Thoams Smith & George Cassiday citzens of Carter County. and late members of the Company C 20" Ky V. I. Regt. U. S. A. dispossed & says
That the have been aquainted with thomas Skeeins also a member of said Regt & Company for the last three years and always have known him to be a good soldier brave in Battle, and at his post from the comencement of the war to Atlanta and back to Louisville. till and enlisted as a Vetrean in said Regt. till within a few days before the Mustring out of said Regt he and [...] Wm James also a Member of said Company committed a crime for wish he was sentenced from Louisville to the State Prisson for Eight Years.
The also further state that he has always been sober and obedient to orders till the we got to Louisville, and getting in bad company in comitting the crime, for wich he stands charged; for his good behavior and good service to his Country and under the circumstances we vouch for him and recomend him respectfull to the clemency of the Govenor
