Paducah Ky
To Govr Magoffin
Dear Sir
Enclosed find a note addressed by Me to Genl Prentiss Commanding forces at Cairo on the subject of the invasion of Ky by Federal troops, to which he has not thought proper to reply
I also enclose My letter of instructions, as I am informed by Col Monroe, that My services ar not further needed —
I will just say; that you need a prudent Man here all the time, to post you as to all the facts & things that are happening- as well as to make these people Keep the peace untill after the election If Something of the kind is not done we will have trouble at once — I doubt the policy of relying exclusively upon the Military
I have the honor to be &c.
Jno M Johnson
Dr Johnson-
