Mr Wm R Covington
Dr Sir — The friends of Rufus Jones intend making an effort to secure his pardon by the Governor. Nothing would be so effectual to accomplish that purpose as a request upon the part of the jurors who tried him — There is certainly no inconsistency in them doing so. They have discharged this duty under their oaths & very often the facts proved careful this course under the law, when other circumstances lead the mind to wish the convicted might not be furnished — The Governor has the power to pardon & we believe will do so if the jury think & say it is a case where Executive clemency should be exercised — We hope you will be willing to say so for Rufus Jones.
Yr frnds
Geo. C. Rogers
E. M. Covington
