To his Excellency.
B. Magoffin.
Your petitioner the subscriber, would respectfully represent that at the present term of the Warren Equity & Criminal Court he was fined 50$ for carrying concealed a Bowie knife. the proof was that your petitioner had the knife for a friend to have it straightened & did not draw it on any One but that it was fdrawn from his bosom by another. Under these circumstances & the fact that the Jury, who tried him, agree to write with him in his petition for a remission of said fine, We pray your excellency to release him from the payment of said 50$. he will add that he is very poor & has a large family & the times & are fully hard. Be pleased to respond favorably to this petition & greatly oblige, yr. humb. Svt.
