To His Excellency the Hon Beriah Magoffin Govenor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky,

Your petitioner would represent that at the last November Term of the Scott Circuit Court he was fined in the sum of $20 — & costs for a misdemeanor, that the costs in the prosecution amount to a considerable sum and that he is a poor man with a family who are dependant upon him for their daily support, and that if he is compelled to pay the fine that it would very much embarrass him, as well as take the necessaries of life from his family, wherefore he petitions your Excellency for a remission of the fine, the times are very oppressive & money by him very hard to obtain.
