To His Excellency, Gov. Magoffin:
The undersigned, citizens of Kenton county, would respectfully represent that James G. Everett, has been indicted tried and fined $20000 and costs for permitting gaming on his premises- It appeared from the testimony that in the month of these he also allowed some parties to play in his grocery for whisky. Under the circumstances the jury felt bound to convict him, but in veiw of the severity of the penalty which the law has affixed to offenses of this charater, we respectfully request your Excellency to remit so much of the fine as can be legally done- And we will ever pray &c
