Brooksville
Messrs T F Marshall & F L Cleveland
Dear Sirs
I send to you the Petition & affidavit of James S Asbury, he is the son of Taylor Asbury, he was indited for voting before he was 21 years old, the facts as they exist are set forth in his affidavit. He is as honest and worthy a young man as we have in our County โ I only obtained a few names to his petition, but you will see they are our best men, officers and Lawyers of the County, no one has refused to sign it that I have applied to, I could get a thousand names if desired, please present the Petition and affidavit to the Governor and use your influence in getting the fine remitted.
I also send to you the Petition and affidavit of Greenbery G. Henson who was fined $365.00 for permitting his fence to stand upon the road, the affidavit states truely the facts in the case, he was prosecuted through malice, I am well acquainted with the road, it is very seldom used, probably there is not a wagon passes once a month, one corner of the fence may be a little over his line, but is really no obstruction to the road, you will see that the jury that tried the case are all desirous that he shall be released, have got a few other names, could get the whole county if desired โ please use your influence, and if the Governor wants any other references, I can send him any that is desired โ
You can refer him to H Taylor, he is well acquainted with Henson, and also Asburys family. Please attend to them as soon as conveinent, and send to me, and much
oblige yours &c
C, H, Lee
