Friend Prentice
I wrote you some weeks ago soliciting your aid, in securing me a promoted appointment I also gave you in the same letter the circumstances connected with my recommendation for the Majority in our Regt & the commissioning of Capt Claggett, by the Military Board — after I had been acting as Maj for one month — Believing that my claims were superior to Capt C's as a military man I have deeply felt his appointment over me under the circumstances — & knowing your intimacy, & influence with Gov Robinson & Agt Genl Finnell I shall depend upon your active influence with these Gentlemen in securing me a Field appointment — the long & severe marches to which we have been subjected is terribly severe upon me — & I am at present unwell. but never flinch from duty — We are now here & marched from Nashville ^in^ three days — If friend Prentice will use his exertions & secure my promotion, I think he knows me well enough to know that I will endeavor to ^do^ honor to any position — let me hear from you inhaste —
Your friend
Robt Vaughan
