Sir By recent enactments of the Genl Assembly you are authorized to raise and equip five regiments of mounted Infty for purposes of State defence I propose to be one of the numerous applicants for authority to raise one of those Regts
As regards my integrity of character, firmness of purpose, ability and aptness to command and experience in such matters I respectfully refer you to Maj. T. L. Crittenden, Col. Cicero Maxwell of 26th Ky Vol Infty, Col P. Butler Hawkins, formerly of 11th Ky Vol Infty and to any or all of the present officers & men of said Regiment; in which I have served as Capt. of Company for near two years —
Should this application meet with your approval I suggest the Southern portion of the State as the field of my operations, with camps
of organization and instruction at Hopkinsville, Russellville, and Greenville or at such other points as may be deemed most expedient
