Thomas E Bramlett
Governor of the State of Kentucky
Sir

I have the honor of addressing you in regard to an order which was issued by you.. Revoking my Commission In the first place the order states that I John W Walls was never mustered into the U. S. Service I will give the facts, why I was not mustered in the U S States Service as an Officer.. All the first Commissions that was issued was to take rank from Aug 12th 1861.. They were forwarded to John M Hewett of the Battery.. And were duly received by him which he acknowledges But from some cause innaccountable For by me he never delivered my Commission to me But kept it Consealed for about fifteen months.. I was recognised by him as the 1st Lieut of the Battery.. And he ordered me to uniform myself as such.. I did and served Three months as a 1st Lieut

It was fairly understood between Capt Hewett and myself that I was to be one of his first Lieut.. But from some cause has tried to deprive me of my rights I now appeal to your Excellency to have this case investigated and I will prove to you that I am rightfully one of the 1st Lieut of the Battery.. I was mustered for the Months of November and December 1861.. by Capt John M Hewett for Pay as a 1st Lieut.. of the Battery.. After that time there was a dificulty in the Battery and he refused to muster me as an Officer Knowing that I was Commissioned by the Governor of the State of Kentucky There is But one Lieut.. In the Battery Propperly mustered into the U S States Service. as an Officer.. I hope you will call the Parties to gather and have the Case investigated And I will prove so your Excellency by Officers of the Battery that Capt J M Hewette has tried to deprive me of my rights as an Officer

To the Governor requesting an investigation of the causes which induced you to revoke his commission. Says he never was mustered into U S Service from the fact that the coms issued aug 12" 1861 and forwarded to Capt J. M Hewitt. among which was one for him as 1s Lt. but never delivered.
