Nashville, Tenn
To his Excelency
Gov. Bramlett
Sir I take the liberty of addressing your Excelency to ask a favor which lies in your power to grant and which will not discommode you in the least But will benifit me a great deal and place me under great obligations to you. I have been a soldier in the Regular U. S. Army for nine years and have two honorable discharges from the same the first is for Expiration of term of service and the second is for reenlistment which dates
I now appeal to your Excelency for some better position than that of a private soldier Although I could desire no more honourabley one I think I deserve something more lucrative.
I am a native of Union County Ky and as there is very few men in the Old Regular army from the state of Ky Your Excelency might give them that has served as long as I some position in one of the Regiments from our good old State. I fell my self [competent] of a capptin or first Lieuts position in Infantry or Artillery or I have served in bouth and am thourly conversant with the tacticks of each
Hopeing to hear from you Soon I will close
Most Respectfully
Robert Belt
