Irvine
Gov. Bramlette
The undersigned citizens of Estill, Owsley, Breathitt, Perry, Letcher, Harlan& Claywould respectfully ask that at least three (3) of the companies of the "Three Forks Bat." be retained in the sevice for two or three months longer atleast — We ask especially that Capt. Cardwell be not now mustered out, — we would also ask that Capt. Combs & Blankinshipscompanies be retained —
At present we have peace and quiet in the counties named, but the guerrillas are only suppressed for the present and in consequence of the presence of Union forces, & should they be mustered out they will again appear and we fear in a worse and more desperate warfare than hertofore — If the troops are all mustered out it will leave us in a worse condition than when the forces now here were formed. We hope and trust you will not disregard this petition — The whole Batallion is now here representing the whole country from this to the Virginialine and are exceedingly anxious that you should be here on Monday next and Make them a speach — If you will come, you will have a largecrowd We will expect you — You have ere this recd a letter from citizens of this county scoleciting you to be here Monday — Please
answer immediately —
Respectfully
Isaac N. Cardwell
