Fort Bruce
1861
Confederate fort constructed along the Cumberland River at Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee, in 1861. Originally named Fort Defiance. Captured by Union forces in February 1862 and renamed Fort Bruce. Contained a contraband camp and a recruiting center for U.S. Colored Troops. Commandant: Colonel Sanders D. Bruce.
