Hamilton County, Ohio, carpenter and soldier. Syracuse, New York, native. Married to Elvira Simmonds. Father of Ella Simmonds, Richard Simmonds, Caroline "Carrie" Simmonds, and William Simmonds. Carpenter in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1850. Carpenter in Hamilton County in 1860. Joiner in 1861. Served in the 1st Kentucky Independent Battery (U.S.A.) as captain from May 10, 1861 to March 13, 1864. Cashiered by court-martial for defrauding the U.S. government on March 13, 1864.
