Frankfort, Kentucky, clerk and soldier. Native of England. Married to Mary E. Hayden. Clerk in Frankfort in 1860. Commissioned as a notary public in Kentucky in 1863. Notary public for Franklin County, Kentucky, in 1864. Served in the Office of the Adjutant General of Kentucky as a mustering officer with the rank of first lieutenant from 1864 to 1865. Clerk and acting assistant adjutant general in 1865.
