Knox County, Kentucky farmer, agent, and soldier. Kentucky native. Son of John C. Black and Clarissa Black. Married to Mildred Black. Father of John Black, Meala Black, and David Black. Laborer in Knox County in 1850. Household owned five enslaved persons in Knox County in 1850. Farmer in Knox County in 1860. Agent authorized to retrieve fugitive William Foster from Tennessee in 1861. Served in the 49th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as first lieutenant and captain from July 18, 1863, to December 26, 1864.
