Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, resident and soldier. Berkshire County, Massachusetts, native. Son of Jonathan Allen and Elizabeth Williams Allen. Married to Augusta B. Allen. Father of Jennie M. Allen, William Allen, Thomas Allen, Louis Allen, and Ernest Lee. Resident of Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, in 1860. Served in the Pay Department of the United States Army as a major and additional paymaster of volunteers from June 1, 1861 to October 4, 1865. Resigned on October 4, 1865. Subsequently brevetted lieutenant colonel of volunteers with rank to date from March 13, 1865.
