Jefferson County, Kentucky, newspaper editor and public printer. Bucks County, Pennsylvania, native. Married to Eliza R. Harney Hughes in Jefferson County, Kentucky, on August 10, 1846. Father of Edward H. Hughes, Wallace E. Hughes, William B. Hughes, Mary E. Hughes, Martha Hughes, and Thomas P. Hughes. Editor in Louisville in 1850. Editor of the Louisville Democrat with John H. Harney in Louisville in 1860. Installed as public printer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in December 1861.
