Casey County, Kentucky, soldier. Boyle County, Kentucky native. Married to Rebecca Anne Rains. Father of Frances Rains, Eleanor Rains, Eliza A. Rains, James M. Rains, Chinesa Rains, Martha Rains, and Sarah Rains. Farmer in Casey County, Kentucky, in 1860. Served in the First Regiment Kentucky Cavalry (U.S.A.) as captain from October 6, 1861, to April 14, 1862. Served in the Casey County State Guards (U.S.A.) as second lieutenant from February 25, 1865, to October 21, 1865.
