Educator Resources

Civil War Governors of Kentucky (CWGK) is a further demonstration of KHS’s commitment to improving the quality of history education in Kentucky and across the United States by making usable primary sources available for K-12 and post-secondary educators.

Keyword searchability; detailed annotations of relevant persons, places, and organizations; and rich subject matter makes CWGK documents easy to find and integrate into lesson plans in civics, economics, geography, and history. The thousands of open-access documents available on CWGK reveal a  variety of historical voices and competing perspectives on the critical issues of the Civil War era, making it a powerful and rewarding tool for students and teachers working within Kentucky state history standards.

To support the work of Kentucky’s educators, CWGK staff are developing thematic resources that provide educators with materials pulled from the digital archive. Each theme below contains contextual information, primary source documents, suggested secondary materials, and potential classroom activities.
