The undersigned Citizens of Henry County: Would petition Yr Excelency the Governor of Kentucky, that at the Sept. Term of the Henry Circuit Court a Judgment or fine was imposed against William Mathews on an Indictment agt. him for Shooting at William Edwards in Sudden heat or passion — that no wounding or hurt was inflicted — Many who sign this petition are Knowing by statement and otherwise to the facts of the Case — and to the paculiar circumstances of the Case that did not come out in the evedence — they believe that this case is one, that recommends it to y^r Mercy & Clemency

We know the parties well — Be pleased wherefore to remit the fine of Seventy five dollars & We Will be more than Satisfied — public Justice here is satisfied, — Dec. 17. 1863
