I have inquired of of the clerk of the Madison County Court & he informs me thatE. K. Howard the Justice who has resigned resides, & was formerly magistrate, in the 8^th District of Madison County —

The Rev. statutes of Ky makes it necessary for a vacancy in the office of Justice of the Peace to be filled by the appointment of the Governor

temporarily until the next succeeding May or August election whichever shall first transpire — As it is now but a few days until the August election it will be impossible to have an election for Justice this year in the 8^th district You will therefore oblige both W. S. Taylor & myself by issuing the Commission So that the election will come on next year
