Vanderburgh County, Indiana, attorney and soldier. Kentucky native. Son of Alfred M. Hynes and Mary Hynes. Married to Mary E. Jones Hynes in Indiana on September 1, 1858. Father of Florence Hynes and Alice Hynes. Attended school in Nelson County, Kentucky, from 1846 to 1850. Graduate of St. Joseph's Jesuit College in Nelson County in 1850. Read law with Jones & Blythe law firm in Nelson County from 1850 to 1855. Admitted to the bar in 1855. Attorney in partnership with John Jay Chandler in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, from 1857 to 1864. Prosecuting attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit of Indiana from 1860 to 1862. Attorney in Vanderburgh County in 1863. United States Provost Marshal in Vanderburgh County from 1862 to 1864. Served in the 136th Indiana Infantry (U.S.A.) as a major and private in 1864. County court clerk in Vanderburgh County from 1864 to 1868.
