Attended law school at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 1856 to 1857. Attended law school at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1857. Commonwealth's attorney for the 7th Judicial District of Kentucky from 1862 to 1866.
