Graves County, Kentucky, hotelkeeper and soldier. New York native. Married to Catherine Payne. Father of Julia Payne, Olivia Payne, Rosa Payne, Dudley Payne, and Prentice Payne. Hotelkeeper in Graves County in 1860. Served in the 1st Regiment Capital Guards, Paducah Battalion, as major from August 16, 1864, to February 12, 1865.
