Indianapolis, Indiana, attorney, deputy clerk, and private secretary. New York native. Son of Charles R. Jacobs and Eliza Jacobs. Attended school in St. Joseph County, Michigan, in 1850. Graduate of Kalamazoo Theological Seminary in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, in 1857. Student at Albany Law School in Albany, New York, in 1860. Admitted to the bar in 1860. Attorney in Elkhart County, Indiana, in 1860. District attorney for in St. Joseph County, Indiana, in 1863. Deputy clerk of the Indiana Supreme Court in Indianapolis in 1865. Private secretary to Indiana Governor Oliver P. Morton in Indianapolis in 1865.
