Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Your Petitioner John Colvert would state that at the last February Term of the Marion Circuit Court he was fined the sum of five hundred for the alledged offense of dealing faro Your Petitioner says he is not a dealer of faro. That on some public occasion in Lebanon he happened in a Room at one of the Hotels in Said town and for the amusement of the Company dealt faro for a few hours is the offence & the only one that could be proved — He has no means himself and is a cripple & in very bad health and by the Kindness of his friend who furnished the means he has paid to the Commonwealth's Attorney his part of said ^fine^ & the costs of the prosecution but to pay any more he is totally unable and has no friends that will consequently he will be compelled to go to prison where in his state of health he will soon die — Your Petitioner thinks he has paid enough for his alledged offense & Therefore prays Your Excellency to remit the balance
