I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter bearing date July 26^th and in reply have to inform you that the 119. 123. 124. 125 U. S. Col'd Infantry Regts, 4^th 12^th & 13^th Heavy Artillery, 5^th & 6^th Col^d Cav^ly Regts now serving in the Dept of K^y are being enrolled with a view to ascertain the number of women and children freed under the law of March 3^rd 1865 and of ascertaining correctly who was the owner of each black soldier before his enlistment. I will not be able to enroll the 107. 108. 109. 114. 115. 116. 117. 118. 122 Infantry Regt's & 8^th H^y Artillery as these Regiments are not serving in this Dept. I would advise that the Governor send out at once a proper person to enroll these Regiments. It is of the greatest importance to former owner of slaves, as well as to the families and children of the Soldiers that the enrollment of them be made as it is the only correct history of the men that can be obtained

By addressing a letter to the Adjutant General of the Army, Gen^l Lindsey can ascertain when all Kentucky Colored Regiments, not in this Dept are now serving.
