Governor of Kentucky

Your Petitioner Henry B. Green a citizen of Louisville will respectfully state that some time before the last Term of the city court of Louisville, one William Fricks who had been a short time in the city & with whom your Petitioner had formed a slight acquaintance & from his conduct & deportment had also received the opinion that he was an Industrious Worthy Young man; was arrested on a charge of Petit Larceny. (stealing a small perfume bag worth one Dollar) from a Drug store; your Petitioner was Induced to believe that the Young man, was not guilty of an Intentional Violation of the Law, but had taken the article more in a Joke or when on a Frolic, and being applied too by said Fricks who had but few acquaintances in the city, your Petitioner became the Security of said Fricks for his appearance in said court to answer said charge in the sum of $100: That said Fricks was Indicted by the Grand Jury ofsaid court and on the calling of said case for Trial said Fricks failed to appear having left & gone to Nashville, and a forfeiture was Entered & Scifa issued and at the December Term 1863 ofsaid city court a Judgement was rendered against your Petitioner for the sum of $100. with costs. Your Petitioner states that he was Induced to become Security for said Fricks solely for the reason that he did ^not^ believe he could have been Guilty of
the offense charged against him & for no fee or promise of reward. Your Petitioner is a young man of verry moderate means & has recently commenced business in the city & is not able to pay said Judgement without materially affecting his business. and as it was an act of Friendship only for a young man of whom he entertained a good opinion, he hopes your Excellency will remit that part ofsaid Judgement which is coming to the Commonwealth & he as in duty bound will &^c

The undersigned unite in asking a remission of that part of the Judgement mentioned within & prayed to be remitted. We Know M^r Green & believe the statements made by him in the Petition are True.
