Claiborne Lisle respectfully states that on the 5^th day of October 1861 he became bound as the surety of John B Lisle in a Recognisance Bond in the Penalty of $1000= for his appearance at the Novr Term 1861 — of the Clark Circuit Court Kentucky to answer an Indictment therein, for Gaming. in which it was charged that $600= had been won & lost in 24 hours — said John B Lisle appeared at the November Term 1861 but the case was continued and was also continued at the succeeding Terms of said Court at the May & July Terms 1862 said John B Lisle being present at each of those Terms,

In the fall of 1862 he went into the Confederate service, and was not present at the November Term 1862~~wherefore~~ and the Bond aforesaid was declared Forfeited — at the May Term 1863 Judgment was rendered upon the Forfeiture for the sum of $1000= against your Petitioner

The said John B Lisle always asserted to and was beleived [...] Petitioner not guilty of the charge [...] him; he continues in the Co[...]te service and has no Estate fro[...] to indemnify his surety on the matter aforesaid

Wherefore your Excellency is respectfully solicited to release him from the payment of the
aforesaid Judgment of $1000=
