To his Excellency
Thomas E Bramlett
Governor of Kentucky

The undersigned Claiborn Lisle respectfully respectfully represents that on the 24^th of May 1860 he became bound as surety in a Recognisance Bond for the appearance of Marcus Lisle at the July Term 1860 of the Clark Circuit Court Ky to answer an Indictment wherein he was charged with Gaming -- $20= being said to have been won & lost in 24 hours, the amount of that Bond being $100=

Afterwards, (during the pending of the forgoing)- to wit on the 18^th of May 1861 he became further bound as the surety of said Marcus Lisle in another Recognisance Bond, The penalty of which was $1000= for his appearance at the July Term 1861 of the aforesaid Court to answer an indictment for Gaming, the charge being that $2000= were won & lost in 24 hours

Your Petitioner further states that said Marcus Lisle appeared in said Court under the first named Indictment at the July Term 1860 -- ~~and~~ but the case was continued by the Commonwealth at that Term and also at the succeeding Terms- of November 1860= May--July & November 1861= and at the May & July Terms 1862= said Marcus Lisle was also present at the Apperance Term July 1861= to answer the 2^d Indictment aforesaid, but it was continued by the
Commonwealth, and was also continued at November Term 1861 and May, & July ~~and November~~ Terms 1862 -- The said Lisle being present at each of the Terms of said Court subsequent to May 1861- and inclusive of July 1862, in the fall of 1862- he went into the Confederate service ~~and departed this life [...] in the fall of~~ ~~1862~~- & was not present at the November Term 1862 of said Court and both of the said Bonds were declared Forfeited, and at the May Term 1863 Judgments were respectively rendered against your Petitioner upon the aforesaid Bonds for $100.= and $1000 Dollars

Said Marcus Lisle always asserted and your Petitioner believed he was not guilty of the Matters charged against him he departed this life in the spring of 1863 and left no Estate, from which his surety could be indemnified in part or in whole -- Your Petitioner therefore respectfully solicits your Excellency to exonerate him from the payment of the aforesaid Judgments.

I was acting as Commonwealths attorney at the November Term 1863 of the Clark Circuit Court, & the facts set forth by Claiborne Lisle Esqr in his foregoing affidavit I believe to be true, I think that his case is a meritorious one, under all the circumstances, and under the peculiar hardship of the case I recommend it for Executive Clemency,
