To his Excellency the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Your petitioner the undersigned would respectfully represent that the Grand Jury for Laurel County at the March Term of the Laurel Circuit Court 1864 returned an Indictment against him for retailing ^to which he plead guilty & Judgmt was rendered for $20 — ^ The facts in the case being as follows- viz. Your Petitioners brother E. S. M^cNeill being a licensed Tavern Keeper and Keeping Liquors in his Tavern house, The undersigned residing at the same house attended the Bar and sold Liquors without having Taken the oath required of Tavern Keepers he states that he was ignorant of the fact that the law required all persons Thus superintending or selling to take any oath That he was endeavoring to comply with the law enforced upon Tavern Keepers in all other respects having no Knowledge of the late act in regard to the oath as above stated That he is innocent of any intention to evade or violate the laws of the Country and most respectfully prays your Excellency to remit said Judgment
