To his Excellency the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky the undersigned Petitioner would Respectfully rerpesent that at the last March Term of the Laurel Circuit Court the Grand Jury of Laurel County for said Term found an Indictment against him for Retailing- The facts upon which said indictment was found are as follows Your Petitioner was at a house where Liquor was Kept for sale two were called at the yard fence and asked if there was Liquor there for sale your petitioner told them he thought there was and spoke to the owner ^(Samuel Jones)^ who was in the house shoemaking Jones ~~[...]~~asked your petitioner to take the Liquor out to them which he did letting them have a quart. That soon after Jones came out and received the pay for it himself, Your petitioner being advised that what he had done was a violation of law he plead guilty and Judgment was rendered against him for $20- That he has payed off the cost and fees and now most respectfully prays your Excellency to remit the fine. He further states that said Samuel Jones was indicted for keeping a Tippling house (by said Grand Jury) arrested and brought into court plead guilty Judgment was rendered for $60 — which said Jones paid to the clerk of said court.

The undersigned citizens of Laurel County are well acquainted with James Duvall who is also a citizen of said county, a verry poor man, but an inoffensive hardworking honest man and they would Respectfully ask your Excellency to remit the fine against him
