Your Petitioners would respectfully represent to your Honner that they were informed against at the September Term of the McClean Circuit Court and an indictment found against them for selling spirits to a slave in violation of the statute your Petitioners employed council to attend to the management of said cause which they failed to do properly but let the Court take the case on the indictment without any Evidence on the part of these Petitioners and the court thereupon rendered Judgment against these Petitioners for 50$ your Petitioners were wholy ignorant of the prosecuting if they had been aprised of the case they could have introduced the owner of the slave and proven that we had daily orders from him to sell said slave sprits where ever he called for it as will fuly appear to your Honer by reference to his affidavit herwith filed

Now therfore your Petitioner declare that they have not violated the Statute of Kentucky as alledged and Pray your Honner to release him from this unjust penelty as they will ever pray
