To Governor Bramelett

Your petitioner Perry M^cNealy respectfully represents to you Ex'cy, that he was indicted in the Boone Circuit Court for an Assault and Battery on James H. Snyder, and that on a plea of guilty he was fined the sum of $150.⁰⁰/₁₀₀ -- at the April term 1864 of said court. Your petitioner also states that his little daughter was the owner of a favorite Cat which took without his knoledge, to the practice of killing Young Chickens, and did kill, as he is since to informed and believes, some fifteen or twenty young chickens of his neighbor James H. Snyder and that said Snyder, to prevent further depredations not knowing whose cat it was, had it caught and drowned in the Ohio River!;

And that when your petitioner learned the cat was drowned, which was in a moment of it was thrown into the River, seeing his little daughter in tears, he went forth with to said Snyder, in a minuit of passion, and demanded five dollars in payment for the drowned cat, and on his understanding Snyder to refuse payment, that he struck him one blow only, with his fist, and felled him to the floor, the [rucontred] occured in Snyder's store house, Snyders wife, in ten or fifteen minuits paid to this petitioner $5.⁰⁰/₁₀₀, and in a few days thereafter this petitioner had the money returned
to James H Snyder. He further states that he now is, and has been on good terms with his neighbor Snyder, ever since a short time after the difficulty, Your petitioner states he is a poor man, and the head of a large and dependant family, who live by labor, and is illy able to pay the fine aforesaid, wherefore in view of the premises, he prays your Ex'cy to remit said fine, or so much thereof as may seem fair and merciful to your Ex'cy and your petitioner will ever pray &c

Sworn to before me this the [ ] day of April 1864 --

We whose names are hereunto subscirbed respectfully join in the prayer of the petitioner and request that the fine be remitted -- Your obedient servants &c
