To His Excelency Gov Bramleet, Govornor of K.Y.

In the application of the friends of Joseph Brown convicted at the present term of the Jefferson Circuit Court for manslaughter, permit me to say that I have known the young man from boyhood, and am conversant with many of the circumstances in relation to the unfortunate afair which led to his conviction (having been the magistrate who took down the dying statement of dec^d) I have no hestation in saying that in my opinion there never was a case in which ~~[the]~~ Executive Clemency could be more Judiciously extended I believe that he should be pardoned, and in doing so Justice will be satisfied, and the laws fully vindicated. It was an unfortunate affair, but only such as may at any moment happen to the best man in the world, no one regrets it more that he the said Joseph Brown
