To his Excellency the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Your petitioner R. L. Harper of the County of Caldwell and state of Kentucky would respectfully represent to your Excellency that at the June term of the Caldwell Circuit Court in the year 1863, he your petitioner became the surety of one Sandford Hobby in three several recognizances in favor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, that one of said recognizances was for the sum of one hundred dollars and was for the appearance of the said Sandford Hobby in said court at its November term 1863 to answer an indictment for an assault, that another of said recognizances was for fifty dollars for the appearance of the said Hobby at the November term 1863 of said court, to answer an indictment for a breach of the peace, that the other of said recognizances was for the sum of fifty dollars, and for the appearance of the said Hobby at the November term of said court to answer an indictment for carrying concealed weapons.

And he further states that the said Sandford Hobby failed to appear in said ~~and~~ court to answer said indictments or either of them, and each and all of said recognizances were taken as forfeited, and at the June term 1864 of said court, three several judgments were rendered against him this petitioner upon said recognizances, that one of said judgments was for one hundred dollars and costs, and the other two were for fifty dollars each and costs, and all of them were in favor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. And he further states that the said Sandford Hobby is a nonresident of Kentucky and entirely insolvent, that said judgments and each and all of them are wholly unpaid, and that he has received no indemnity against the same or any part thereof and he knows of no means of obtaining such indemnity.

Wherefore your petitioner asks your excellency to remit
so much of each and all of said judgments as ~~your~~ the law will allow your Excellency to remit.

The undersigned citizens of Caldwell county Kentucky would respectfully state that Sandford Hobby named in the foregoing petition is a non resident of Kentucky and insolvent, that we are acquainted with the above named R. L. Harper and know him to be honest and truthful and we believe the statements made in the foregoing petition are true.
