To His Excellency the Governor of Kentucky

The undersigned Citizens of Henry County would represent that Will T. Sutherland was fined $100. at the Ap^l Term 1864 ^of Henry Circuit Court^ for striking a man called Isaac Allagood, who signs this petition -- The Case was this Sutherland was a soldier in the Army of the United States and had just returned Home to his wife & seven children and Isaac Allagood being his neighbor they were in Town together and both took too much whiskey: they fell out & Sutherland struck him: this is the case and the Jury find him $100 -- Now We say that Sutherland is a very poor man, dailey labourer & the wife & children are entirely dependant on him for support -- He Will be placed in jail for this offence -- Therefore we earnestly Solicit your Excellency to remit all the fine -- the costs will be as much as he can pay -- It is truly a case of mercy --
